A Handful of Singers | Bath's quality chamber choir

Founded in 2002, a Handful of Singers is an auditioned chamber choir of experienced singers who share their love of music-making. Their present conductor and musical director is Christopher Finch, under whose direction the choir is developing a wide ranging and eclectic repertoire – accompanied and a cappella.  The choir is now enjoying a growing reputation for high quality performances throughout Bath and the neighboring areas.

Recent highlights

Recent performances have included the major works for chamber choir, including the requiems of Faure and Durufle, Britten's St Nicolas and Hymn to St Cecilia, Barber's Adagio, Byrd's Mass in five parts, and Kodaly's Missa Brevis. However the choir also enjoy performing the lighter repertiore and the second half of concerts have encompassed Chilcott, close harmony jazz, the Beatles and many other such.

In 2010 the Handful of Singers took advantage of a BBC Choral Award to combine forces with local schools and young musicians to mount an extraordinary concert which included Morten Lauridsen Lux Aeterna and the the premiere in the South West of Chilcott's newly composed Requiem. Meantime, Christopher Finch has led the Wellensian Consort to win the coveted BBC Choir of the Year prize.

In March 2011, the choir gave a well-received performance of Howard Goodall's A Requiem and other contemporary music at St. Stephens Church, Lansdown, Bath etc. And in October the choir gave the first performance of Requiem composed for the choir by its accompanist, Jamie Hamilton in front of an invited audience - an extraordinary occasion for both performers and audience.
