A Handful of Singers | Bath's quality chamber choir
Founded in 2002, a Handful of Singers is an auditioned group of experienced singers who share their love of music-making. Their present conductor and musical director is Christopher Finch, under whose direction the group is developing a wide ranging and eclectic repertoire – accompanied and a cappella. The group is now enjoying a growing reputation for high quality performances throughout Bath and the neighboring areas.
Recent highlights
Recent performances have included the major works for chamber choir, including the requiems of Faure and Durufle, Britten's St Nicolas and Hymn to St Cecilia, Barber's Adagio, Byrd's Mass in five parts, and Kodaly's Missa Brevis. However the choir also enjoy performing the lighter repertiore and the second half of concerts have encompassed Chilcott, close harmony jazz, the Beatles and many other such.
Forthcoming concerts
The Handful's next performance will be on May 28th as a part of the Party in the City - St. Michael's Without, Broad Street.
The next full length concert will be on July 3rd, the BBC Choral Award Concert, to held in St. Swithins, the Paragon, Bath
The concert will include Morten Lauridsen Lux Aterna for choir and string orchestra, and, together with choirs from local schools, works by Goodhall, Chilcott and, Allain .
In the second half, choirs from local schools together with the Handful of Singers will perform Chilcott's Requiem, composed in 2010, for which this will be the premier in the South West.
BBC Grant
The BBC have awarded the Handful a Choral Ambition Award of £4,000 for this large scale event which will be be specifically targeted at promoting choral singing in the Bath area and will give young singers and instrumentalists in the area the opportunity to work alongside professional musicians.
Next Concert
The next full concert will be on the 3rd July in St. Swithins, the Paragon, Bath. A major event, supported by the BBC, this will involve local schools, master classes, and a premier in the South West of Chilcott's recently composed Requiem.
A Handful of Singers will also be performing in St. Michael's Without, Broad Street, in the Party in the City which opens the Bath Festival on May 28th.
